Stage 5: Island Pass → Red's Meadow

About this hike

This stage begins in alpine splendor and descends into the lush forests of the Middle Fork San Joaquin River. It includes Thousand Island Lake—one of the most photogenic spots on the JMT—and gradually drops into Red’s Meadow, where hikers find a small resort and resupply stop.
