About This Hike
Stage 12 climbs out of LeConte Canyon and into the remote, austere landscape leading to Mather Pass. The ascent is steep and challenging, culminating in a panoramic pass overlooking the Upper Basin. This is one of the more difficult yet rewarding sections of the JMT.
